Beginning of the world

Work from the series "Beginning of the World"

White Horse Beginning of the World  - 2nd in the series, oil on linen.  song : "Why Should I Cry For You" by Sting on The Soul Cages

For some reason I can't seem to get this one to straighten out.  It is called Emergence of the Two and is almost finished.  Song: "Reina Del Dolor" by Mana on Drama Y Luz

I'll post it again when I get a different picture.

These paintings are inspired by the novel Ka by Roberto Calasso. It is a reinterpretation of the Rg Veda as a fictional story. It is pretty true to history although it has been fictionalized, and the imagery is exquisite. The first picture, Sun. Red. Sky. is in a private collection.

The New Work

Here is the newest work, in the new series Dreamwater about our oceans. All oil on canvas with glitter.

Que nos pudiera  - vaquitas are the most endangered cetacean on earth. Rarely seen alive, there are no photographs of living specimens. Extremely specialized, they only live in one part of the Sea of Cortez (aka the Gulf of California.) Music: Songs from "You are my Little Bird" by Elizabeth Mitchell, and "Ojala Pudiera Borrarte" by Mana on Amar es Combatir

In progress, called One Sunny Afternoon - vaquitas, flying fish, and gulls or storm petrels

Pez Volando (?)  - Oil on canvas with glitter. Flying fish. I actually saw these. They just pop out of the water. Just like that. Really.  Song: "Amor Clandestino" by Mana on Drama Y Luz
 More coming soon...

Some more work

Here is a work that is unrelated to the actual series or collections at this time. It is painted in Sennelier pastels and is my second full size pastel painting.  It still is heavily influenced by the repetitive playing of it's song and does still have birds in it, but has a much more diverse pallette as I did not limit to a single colour scheme as I have been doing in other artworks.

Untitled (Pastel on Fabriano cold pressed full sheet, framed  Song: Arrancame El Corazon by Mana)

completed 2008

Some pictures for the Felid collection. So far this is only defined by the works having cats in them. The Felinae works are smaller cats and the Pantheras are the big cats plus cheetahs. The newest one is this top one of the calico cat that fades into the background. It is related to an idea I had a long time ago regarding cats and their quietness and ability to sneak and hide.

Here are some of the big cats. Big yawn is from 2000. People like that one a lot. The other two are from the same time. The cheetah with the "king" coat mutation (middle work) is the beginning of the path away from traditional wildife art to a more expressive conceptual idea. These works are much different from the works that I am doing now which tend to move more in the direction of the one above.

I have also started work on another collection based on extremely old stories from Hindu mythology which deal with the sacredness of the black antelope (Indian Blackbuck) and the horse. So far these works tend to be dominated by reds, yellows, and oranges with some blue and purple as the complimentary contrast. There is one new work and one that is in a private collection. Images coming soon.

Lastest Works in the Feather series

Here are two of the latest images from the series Feather. The number of birds in the work are related to the Fibonacci sequence.  Many of the images have trails behind moving birds which is related to a poem I wrote about the impermanence of time and movement. I will post the earlier pieces at a later date, and possibly the poem if I can find it. So far there are 6 paintings completed: 1,1,2,3,5,8

Fibonacci number: 5
Series number: 5
Title: Swift Artemis
Writing on work: "Oh Swift Artemis / Seek out your silver sided prey / I pray that you slip by unnoticed / Unseen by the Leopard" .
Music: Ya Rayah - bipolar remix by Dahmane el Harrachi from the Album  Arabesque compiled by Momo.

Fibonacci number: 8
Series number: 6
Working title: Spiral. Updraft.
Music: Umbrella Beach , Hello Seattle by Owl City on the album Ocean Eyes

Thanks for taking a look. After I get all of Feather up I will start posting from my other 3 series (Felid, Dreamwater, and Beginning of the World)

In Memoriam

I saw you,
Just,
You were alive,
A perfectly good bird.

Art about to be hatched...

Oh swift Artemis,
Seek out your silver-sided prey.
I pray that you slip by unnoticed,
Unseen by the Leopard.

To Semidesimasala

Things Jesus doesn't want you for

1. A red button
2. That extra spoon that doesn't go with anything
3. A jumbuck

I know the Devi's footsteps by the tinkle of her bells

In our temple
The godess hands out prasadam
Herself
From tiny golden hands
Laden with butter
Adorned with bangles

Baby

Oh baghwan in your red overall shorts
You are feeding me an apple
I cannot believe I am your mother
Looking into your laughing mouth
I see the apple of the world

Poetry Re-Post

Update

Hi everyone. Thank you for being patient. I tried to submit some poems for publication so i removed them from this site to avoid the double publication pitfall, but they were rejected anyway so here are some of them again.

A Thousand Ivory Elephants

A thousand Ivory Elephants
Pour out of the egg you broke.
The golden fragrant sandalwood
Contained their might, and tiny magnificence.

How did they all fit,
The thousand ivory elephants?
They must have been so heavy.

What hand carved them with love
And a bloodied knife?

Did they crush his heart,
The thousand ivory elephants?

A Collection of Absurdities

Ick

Do not eat the rice
That has been sitting in the back of the refrigerator
And conversing with the jello
For several weeks.

Enlightened

All the world of man
Is of little consequence
To one hungry elephant.

To All My Baggage and Junk

Get out of my life
Fat Mother
I do not want to go through you
And throw things away
Or keep them
I am tired
Just go recycle yourself

55 Friday

The 55 Friday "I Feel Fine" Edition from Sepia Mutiny, gave an R.E.M. song as inspiration. Here is my contribution:

* * * *

Where the Adriatic and the Mediterranean meet, I am on the cusp of inarticulable things. I am waiting to touch the original-blue of the Aegean Sea.
“The world is bigger and smaller than ever before,” I say.
“Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn,” he says as the salt spray dusts our faces.
